Around fifty cars have been smeared with what seems to be blood from a person in the German city of Hanau close to Frankfurt, police confirm law enforcement.
Vehicles, walls and mailboxes were marked, occasionally with prohibited symbols, they announced in a statement.
Officers state they were notified in the late hours on Wednesday, when a man discovered that a automobile in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish liquid.
The substance had been drawn in the pattern of a Nazi symbol, they stated.
Law enforcement then found multiple other vandalized cars and house walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
These symbols are banned in Germany under laws banning the visible presentation of Nazi symbols.
Law enforcement say early analysis show the liquid was probably human bodily fluid.
"Currently there is no lead as to its source; investigators are presently not cognizant of any injuries in association with the event," they stated.
Local authorities announced they were trying "to resolve the incident" and have appealed to the public for information.
A high-ranking representative said the incident rendered him stunned and required to be solved rapidly.
"This act affects the center of Hanau and reawakens the pain of the right-wing attack five years ago," he stated on a platform, mentioning the killing of nine victims by a assailant targeting individuals of foreign heritage in 2020.
