2K Recruits Popular Battle Royale Developer to Boost Troubled Hero Shooter Ambitious Title

2K Games has welcomed a seasoned producer from Respawn Entertainment to oversee the studio crew at 31st Union, which is currently crafting the anticipated third-person action-packed title known as Project Ethos.

Leadership Change Comes After Poor Response

The new appointee takes on the leadership position at the development studio following the dismissal of former leader Michael Condrey, who was removed from his post due to the game's lackluster initial reveal last fall.

Recently, 2K president a key figure notified team members about this organizational change through an official communication, which emphasized that playtesting had indicated the necessity for a distinct game identity.

The president stated that the team is now reimagining Project Ethos with a refreshed vision, aiming to satisfy gamer demands.

Trend of Key Hires

The news echoes a similar step taken by 2K Games in the summer, when they hired Rod Fergusson from the Diablo team to work on the BioShock studio Cloud Chamber.

Hello Everyone—

I know you all just completed your meeting - I hope you’re as thrilled as I am with the recent updates. Previously I shared you all a message, I mentioned the following: “I believe in this group. You all are some of the most dedicated and innovative designers we have had the chance to collaborate with - and we’re eager for that relationship to endure.”

Through your commitment and adaptability, particularly over the last year, you continue to prove that.

The community feedback from last autumn’s the game playtest was enlightening. It confirmed the promise of a roguelike shooter but told us we still had work to do. It highlighted the need for a clearer identity.

The progress is encouraging to see how far you’ve come. You took the input to consideration and revamped Project ETHOS with a revitalized direction - one that’s ready to deliver on its promise to our audience.

The trust in Project ETHOS strengthens every day. To boost the incredible development you’ve made, It is a pleasure to announce Ben Brinkman as the latest Studio Head of the team. After some time of conversations, he starts with us on next week.

Ben’s management and expertise in the competitive gaming field is considerable, having spent the last 15 years producing and leading some of the most popular series in the industry, for example the acclaimed shooter, and lately, the battle royale hit.

Please join me in greeting him next week. We are all excited to persist seeing the evolution of the game in the months to ahead.

The President

Experience of the New Leader

The appointee currently serves in the role of senior developer and production lead at Respawn Entertainment for Apex Legends. He earlier worked at Treyarch and Activision in multiple development positions on the iconic franchise series, and, earlier in his career, had stints at 2K and Electronic Arts.

Title Information and Vision

The upcoming game was unveiled in last year alongside a public demo. At the time, the developers described the game as a "no-cost, 3rd-person roguelike hero shooter and an innovative evolution on the category."

"Create your ideal gameplay session—or face defeat—in this engaging over-the-shoulder adventure! Build your hero in live gameplay to fit your unique tactics," the description states. "Challenge the rivals with unique powers, risks, and obstacles that change every match. Do you withdraw carefully with your hard-earned loot? Or take a risk, risk it all, and trust your squad can secure victory? The choice is yours."

The game has not yet received an official debut schedule or consoles, but enthusiasts can expect more updates as development continues.
